From San Francisco to Seattle in 30 days – Day 12+13

September 15th, 2006 (Day 12): Hood River

It has been a rainy day today so we used the time for driving. We drove north to the city of Bend where we spent some time on shopping. Then we continued all the way north through Oregon until we reached Hood River located at the Columbia River in the late afernoon where we booked a room for the night.

September 16th (Day 13): Columbia River Gorge

From Hood River we drove towards Portland through the Columbia River Gorge. We stopped in the “Waterfall area” and did a hike up to Multnomah Falls, continuing to Wahkeena Springs and downhill back to the road along Wahkeena Falls.
We got a nice view of Columbia River. This gorge reminds of the River Rhine Valley in Germany except that all the castles are missing. Another nice outlook we found on our way out of the gorge at the Crown Point Vista House.
In the evening we strolled through Portland downtown and concluded the day in an Irish Pub with an impressive collection of bottles at the bar where they were celebrating halftime of the year until next St. Patricks Day.
